Surface area: 2,373 m²
To design this complex and intertwined project, we chose and sought to implement the various programs in the simplest and most efficient way possible.
With its lobby overlooking Avenue du Maréchal Foch and its vertical systems, we offer the possibility of serving all elements of the program from a single point. The system we propose allows the entire site to be irrigated in a very simple way. Indeed, the vertical service gives each entity autonomy and ease of use. This lower entrance is therefore dedicated to welcoming all visitors. With its multipurpose room, which can host conferences as well as film screenings, and its exhibition space, we have lively and welcoming spaces. Furthermore, as you can see from the perspective of the hall, a large staircase invites visitors to linger and settle in.
A triple height above the staircase reveals the different levels of the project. We see a first level dedicated to the restaurant and kitchen, but also the golden staircase leading to the media library. Thus, at a glance, the public can easily grasp the harmonious interweaving of the programs.
This level, dedicated to the kitchen and restaurant, is located on the same level as the villa's front garden, the formal garden. The restaurant and bar open generously onto a terrace, with views filtered by a beautiful vine.
Connected to the ground floor of the historic villa is the media library. We felt it was very important to install it on a single level in order to respect the fluidity it requires. The different worlds easily find their place there. Natural light abounds: double-height skylights give the spaces a sense of spaciousness, windows open onto the city and the garden, and views of the sea are framed by windows whose unique shapes echo the design of the exposed rock of the existing retaining wall. What we are proposing here are special places. Places that leave room for inventive ergonomics, places where everyone can find their place. The media library must appeal to all audiences; everyone must feel happy to be there. That is why it is developed on a large open platform, which gives it great flexibility and scalability over time.
We have placed the nursery on the upper floor, on the same level as a large terrace. Again, it is accessible by elevator, but is also close to the parking lot located on Avenue du Carnier. What we are seeking to achieve in this project is multiple and easy connections. In addition, each floor is directly connected to the corresponding levels of the renovated Villa Chêne, and each entity has its own outdoor space: everything has been done to ensure that the entire site is utilized. The outdoor spaces are also very prominent. The historic gardens are in constant visual contact with the interior spaces. This dialogue creates an atmosphere and establishes a link between the architecture and the landscape.
What we find important in this project are the interventions and connections we have put in place. For us, the key word is fluidity, the interrelation between places.
The main perspective highlights the dialogue we have established between the different volumes. The volumes resonate with the site, and the project seems to develop from the base of the street: the beautiful existing wall unfolds and then rises to become the entrance to the building. This allows for transparency on the ground floor, and the building opens generously onto the street. Set against this large, solid wall, we continue the delicate grid of the existing structure. This is the space for the garden and the shaded terrace of the bar.
Next, we have the imposing mass of the media library. The cantilever gives it the status of a public facility, an emblematic volume with a pure white underside, which further highlights this mineral material that seems to be part of the mountain itself. The roof, which houses the vegetable gardens, is also a vast esplanade. It is a place where one can imagine a multitude of urban activities. It is a community asset, a new square for the neighborhood and the city. From there, one can appreciate the beauty of the landscape and enjoy the panorama towards the sea.
Finally, we placed a small belvedere at the highest point of the project, like a frame offering the most distant views. From there, you can contemplate the sunsets.
In this project, we sought to harmonize the site and the programs. For us, the key words are fluidity and clarity. We designed a place that creates connections, and our architecture resonates with what already exists. It enhances it through a contrast between their materials, as well as by slightly distancing the project from the villa, allowing the latter's four facades to be highlighted and appreciated.
Everything has been done to ensure that the spaces and pathways evoke and convey the cultural dimension of the programs. What we are looking for is spatial generosity, a generosity that serves the multiple uses of the building. To achieve this, our project claims a certain exemplarity, both urban and spatial. As you can see, this project seeks to transpose the generosity of the program into the architecture.
