The site of this gymnasium project has many qualities and complexities. First, there is the unique topography of the embankments surrounding the gymnasium building, a high density of trees in the surrounding area, and landscaping that must be preserved. We intend to take advantage of the site's exceptional context in the reconfiguration of the gymnasium by preserving the landscape quality of the project's surroundings and creating a dialogue between the sports areas and their surroundings. In this way, the various sports areas of the gymnasium and the reception areas communicate with the site, showcase its activities, and invite a dialogue between nature and sports activities.
The project's volume is developed around the redeployment of spaces and uses, articulated with the preserved tennis courts. The new part is located north of the tennis courts in a single volume housing the multipurpose rooms and the multisports hall on the upper floor. The gymnasium then extends to the west thanks to a narrow strip of facilities on the ground floor along the tennis courts, with circulation areas, a clubhouse, and changing rooms for the tennis center along the park. The new design of the building and the addition of a level to the new north section mark the redevelopment of the sports complex.
The project's layout aims to be as compact as possible, with a rectangular design that fits in with the existing building's platform in order to use as little new space as possible. The location of the multisports center on the upper floor allows for both compactness and simplicity, while placing the multisports rooms in a desirable location facing Colline Cacao Park.
The future project's sensitivity to its green surroundings will be further highlighted by the presence of a planted patio, where one of the existing trees will continue to flourish. The patio will thus preserve a remarkable tree and showcase it. This will be one of the project's most distinctive features. As if the architecture were formed around the elements of its site, the new gymnasium will be designed to respect the park and its trees. It will establish a rich dialogue with its context through the way it treats the boundaries of the building and does not encroach on nature.
