The new cultural center draws on the strong volumetric and material identity of the town of Moréac. Through a detailed analysis of the surrounding buildings, the public facility offers a design that is consistent with its context, despite the implementation of a large programmatic area on the ground floor.
The use of local construction archetypes ensures the creation of a common imaginary that anchors the new facility locally. The silhouette of the building is defined by three full gable roofs and a fourth single-slope roof, whose dimensions respond both to the urban fabric and to the architectural program it houses.
The first roof, the westernmost, has a ridge height similar to that of nearby houses, with a lowered edge to ensure a smooth architectural transition to a domestic style. In the center, the two roofs rise slightly higher to meet the internal needs of the program. This gesture enhances the spatial, acoustic, and lighting qualities of the media library's plateau.
Finally, on the east facade, the half-roof rises to the highest point of the building to highlight the main facade and its entrance. A real urban eye-catcher, this facade also helps to mark one of the entrances to the entire urban complex, which brings together educational, cultural, and sports facilities to the south of the plot.
A second feature modifies this architecture and offers a whole new level of interpretation to the entire program. At the heart of the building, a perfect circle has been hollowed out to accommodate the media library garden. A true haven of tranquility and a haven for biodiversity, this space is naturally protected from the physical and acoustic pollution of the busy streets nearby, while bringing many additional qualities to the interior spaces.
